Black History Month Campaign Ideas for Nonprofits

Black-History-Month

Your nonprofit must make sure that the diverse stakeholders you serve know that they are an integral part of the fabric of your organization and that your nonprofit genuinely honors them and who they are.

It is important to note, that to be truly inclusive, your organization should not limit its acknowledgment and celebration of these groups just to their “appointed” months but should make an effort to embrace and celebrate all of its constituents throughout the year.

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating all of our nonprofit partners that are addressing their communities’ needs not only in February but all year round. And, we want to highlight a few organizations doing a great job celebrating this important time through their missions or through dedicated community campaigns.

3 Fundraising Campaign Ideas that Inspire all Year Long

MKE Black, Inc

MKE Black, Inc celebrates and promotes Black business, events, culture, and advancement in the greater Milwaukee area. They are dedicated to providing a one-stop-shop for locals and tourists, with information on dining, shopping, culture, resources, and more. They also help Black Businesses by providing funding and resources to thrive.

Using GiveSmart campaign pages, this nonprofit shines its mission through year-round giving pages and events. They give a clear picture of how they communicate and celebrate their impact.

The Pad Project

The Pad Project creates and cultivates local and global partnerships to end period stigma and to empower women and all menstruators worldwide. They know that one in four teens in the U.S. has missed class because they don’t have access to menstrual products, and they partner with international NGOs because lack of product access correlates to missed education everywhere.

During Black History Month, The Pad Project has partnered with two women shining a light on Black menstruators and their experiences in the menstrual equity space.

Ora Lee Smith Cancer Research Foundation

The Ora Lee Smith Cancer Research Foundation addresses the needs of the millions of desperate cancer patients who have been sent home to die with no options and no hope. Dr. Green, their founder, knows that one day, all cancer patients will have access to more effective, targeted, and affordable treatments.

This tech-based foundation focuses on year-round fundraising, using a GiveSmart landing page, peer-to-peer fundraising, and an embedded, customized donation form directly on their webpage. They used videos to share their impact and made their mission clear.

Whether your organization does something dedicated to Black History Month or not, make sure to continuously support all the communities you serve and represent, all year round.

What our clients say

We needed a platform to make sales online and to track and display ads for our sponsors. GiveSmart was perfect. We ended up making close to $15,000 more than we had hoped for. Definite better ROI than we anticipated. The interface is easy to use and provides plenty of options to get help if needed.

The Rotary Club of South Whidbey Island

Using GS has created ease in auction bookkeeping, payments, and generating post-event thank you/tax letters. While we were online during COVID, our interactions with our GiveSmart via phone, email, and zoom were seamless. A representative always got back to us within the day. I would recommend GiveSmart to anyone doing a large online event.

MicroFinancing Partners in Africa

GiveSmart is highly flexible - you can use it for [a] simple registration and check-in, to full-scale galas with complex order forms, onsite upsells, live auctions, seating management, and more.

Hope Chest for Breast Cancer

GiveSmart is easy to use and ideal for virtual events and can be used for in-person events to manage the silent auction, seating charts, and check-in to the event. Being able to use the platform for unlimited events within the contract year is very useful and being able to add other users and volunteers for different levels of access is helpful as well.
