3 Veterans Day Campaign Ideas For Nonprofits
With Veterans Day approaching on November 11, many nonprofits who work directly with veterans are building campaigns to raise funds in their support. Launching a Veterans Day campaign can be a great way to kick off your Year-End Giving efforts ahead of #GivingTuesday and the last fundraising push of the year, all while honoring our heroes.
To celebrate this Veterans Day, let’s look at three nonprofits doing excellent work to support veterans in their communities and why their campaigns are so fantastic.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation
For The Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation’s annual “Help a Hero Scholarship Program” Campaign, they are partnering with Sport Clips Haircuts for a crowdfunding campaign to raise scholarships for service members and veterans. Sport Clips stores across the country are encouraged to fundraise and collect donations to help fund these life-changing scholarships.
What’s great about their campaign
- They use peer-to-peer fundraising to rally together employees of Sport Clips Haircuts and encourage individuals to sign up and share their own online fundraising page, expanding the reach of those who see the campaign.
- They plan to culminate their campaign with a virtual Celebration Finale, which encourages engagement of their virtual audience and boosts the visibility of the campaign on social media.
Blue Angels Foundation
The Blue Angels Foundation’s mission is to support wounded veterans. In 2020, The Blue Angels Foundation launched their first virtual event, a celebration dedicated to the wounded warrior community. This year, they are launching another virtual Veteran’s Day Salute to raise awareness and funds to support programs that give wounded veterans hope and help them rebuild their lives.
What’s great about their campaign
- They plan to share their event virtually through an Event Page, which helps expand the audience they can reach beyond those who could attend a physical event.
- They encouraged individuals to register their information for the event so that they can give them important updates ahead of the event and stay in touch with them afterward.
Middle Tennessee State University
Middle Tennessee State University plans to host their 4th Annual Veteran Impact Celebration. The goal of their event is to foster a local tradition, celebrate their community’s veterans, and raise awareness and funds to support more veterans and their families as they transition from military service to the civilian workforce.
What’s great about their campaign
- They are offering both in-person and virtual options to attend. With a hybrid event, they have the benefit of seeing some of their supporters face-to-face while also expanding the reach of who can join the event virtually.
- Donors can make their donation a tribute, where someone makes a gift in honor or in memory of a veteran.
While all these campaigns may look different, their main objective is the same–to honor and support veterans. If your organization works with veterans, consider how you can honor our heroes with a fundraising campaign this Veterans Day!
